SAXTONS RIVER — Main Street Arts children's theater camp presents “Pumpkin Fiesta” on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27, at 2 p.m. at the Hepburn/Ostebo barn, 27 Pleasant St.
This dramatization of Caryn Yacowitz's fable follows a week of daily practice by the 9- to 13-year-old theater campers under the direction of Mary Hepburn and Gordon Korstange.
The children will also create the props and set pieces, and learn original songs written by Hepburn.
“Pumpkin Fiesta” follows the competition between Old Juana and Foolish Fernando to raise the biggest pumpkin in San Miguel. Juana works long and hard every year to win the crown at the fair. Now Fernando wants to win, but even though he copies Juana's every pumpkin-growing secret, he is too foolish and lazy to succeed.
The funny fable includes musical skits about composting, honey bees, and other insects, and celebrates the work of the diligent gardener.
The popularity of the 21-year tradition of theater camp at Main Street Arts has made for a sold-out camp session this year, and has been a proven entertainer for audiences of all ages.
This year's production is presented in an alternate location due to construction at the Main Street Arts building on Main Street. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs.
