BRATTLEBORO — The only thing better than bacon is... more Bacon.
That's the premise behind Latchis Arts' latest Movie by Donation on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m., at the Latchis Theatre.
Capping off the inaugural Brattleboro Baconfest: Bacon, Brews, and Blues, sponsored by WKVT and the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Latchis Arts is serving “A Side of Bacon” Kevin Bacon film.
The movie chosen for “A Side of Bacon” is “Diner,” the landmark 1982 film which Vanity Fair called the most influential movie of the past 30 years.
This “guys-and-fries classic,” directed by Barry Levinson, features an ensemble of stars in the making: Mickey Rourke, Paul Reiser, Steve Guttenberg, Ellen Barkin, Putney School alumnus Tim Daly, Daniel Stern, and, of course, Kevin Bacon.
Set in Baltimore, Md., in 1959, “Diner” portrays a generation of young friends on the cusp of adulthood. Much of the “action” takes place in the Fells Point Diner, where the friends gather over coffee and fries to discuss things that seemingly don't matter much, revealing powerful, unspoken truths about their fears, hopes, dreams, and doubts in the process.
According to Jon Potter, executive director of the Latchis, “Diner” is a perfect complement for Baconfest in large part because of its cultural significance and rich entertainment value.
“I'll confess: We all got caught up in the Baconfest spirit and decided to show a Kevin Bacon film because it's true that the only thing better than bacon is more Bacon,” Potter added.
Admission is by donation. Proceeds will be shared with the Brattleboro Area Drop In Center, which was also the recent beneficiary of Load the Latchis, sponsored by WKVT.
