Vermont Theatre Company announces auditions for 'A Christmas Carol'€™

BRATTLEBORO — Auditions for Vermont Theatre Company's “A Christmas Carol” run Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m., at Hooker-Dunham Theater, 139 Main St.

Performances are Dec. 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21 at Hooker-Dunham Theater. Rehearsals are once or twice a week in October and become more intense in November.

The director seeks nine to 15 actors, including two children to play smaller roles; teen and adult ensemble members to play several roles each and sing the majority of the music; and an older gentleman to play Scrooge. This part does not require a singer.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a Christmas song to perform, cold-read scenes from the show, and participate in a group warmup.

The script is a new adaptation by James Gelter. Director is Jessica Gelter. This production of Charles Dickens' classic story will be told through strong, ensemble-generated narrative, scene work, and music.

The ensemble will create the world of Dickens' Victorian London through live sound generation and movement. The design of the production emphasizes period costumes and versatile props that bring the audience into the world of the play.

Lights and special effects will suit the play's nature - a ghost story.

Production assistance is also sought. Volunteers who would like to work on costumes, props, or special effects should contact the director at jessica.gelter@gmail.com.

Also contact the director to make other arrangements if you are unable to attend either of the auditions or cannot arrive at the starting times.
