Tim Johnson chosen for induction into VAB Hall of Fame

BRATTLEBORO — One of Vermont's legendary broadcast news reporters has received the ultimate accolade from his peers.

WTSA News Director Tim Johnson of Vernon learned on Sept. 30 that he would be inducted into the Vermont Association of Broadcasters (VAB) Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Burlington Hilton at the VAB's annual Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.

Johnson, a former VAB Distinguished Service Award winner, was recognized for what the association called “going above and beyond the call of duty for more than 40 years.”

“His work ethic and reporting skills are unmatched,” the VAB said its announcement. “Windham County residents have relied on Tim to get the story first and to get the story right for more than four decades.”

Johnson started his radio career at WKVT in 1973. Aside from a brief stop at WCFR in Springfield in the 1980s, Johnson has spent nearly his whole professional career in Brattleboro. He has been the news director at WTSA since 1997, and is the last full-time news director on a commercial radio station in Vermont.

Earlier this year, Johnson was honored by the Vermont House with a resolution honoring his four decades in broadcasting.
