• Susan B. Cay of Brattleboro has joined the Brattleboro law firm of Corum Mabie Cook Prodan Angell & Secrest, PLC as an associate attorney. Cay comes to the firm after more than nine years as a prosecutor at the Windham County State's Attorney's office, where she handled criminal and juvenile cases. Prior to that, she worked in private practice at Bradley & Faulkner, PC, in Keene, N.H. She holds a B.A. from American University and a J.D. from Vermont Law School, where she graduated cum laude in 1999. Prior to attending law school, she was a reporter for the Brattleboro Reformer.

• Edward Allen Blake, 54, of Grafton. Died Nov. 3 at his home after a long illness. Husband of Debra (Eckman) Blake. Father of Jon and Megan Blake. Brother of Randy Blake and his wife, Julie, and Judy Stoddard and her husband, Ray, and Barbara Blake. Born in Townshend, the son of Emma Schondube and Simon Blake, he spent his days as a caretaker at Beaver Springs Horse Farm. He was an avid hunter, craftsman and carpenter. He loved being outside and riding his motorcycle. Memorial information: Calling hours were held Nov. 7 at Adams Funeral Home in Chester.
• Scott L. “Scotty” Ethier, 67, of West Dummerston. Died Nov. 2 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Husband of April Ryea. Father of Mark Ethier and his wife, Zephyr, of Brattleboro, and Paul Ethier and his wife, Jacquelyn, of Chesterfield, N.H. Brother of Richard and Michael Ethier both of Dummerston, and the late Michelle Flynn. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of George and Lucille (Levasseur) Ethier, he was raised and educated in Brattleboro, attending St. Michael's Parochial School. He was a graduate of St. Michael's High School, Class of 1965. He served in the Air Force from 1966 until his honorable discharge at the rank of master sergeant in 1990. He was stationed in both Vietnam and Cambodia from 1969 to 1972 with the Air Force's Organized Mechanical Squadron. A gifted auto mechanic, he had been employed at Fletcher's Auto for 15 years before retiring early due to his failing health. For a time, he resided in Florida and Woburn, Mass., before settling back in the greater Brattleboro area. He was a member of VFW Carl M. Dessaint Post 1034 and American Legion Post 5 in Brattleboro, and held membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid NASCAR and Harley Davidson fan, thoroughly loved hot rods and classic cars, and enjoyed the outdoors. He was known for his spirit of friendship and laid back and positive personality. Memorial information: Committal rites with full military honors took place on Nov. 8 in St. Michael's Parish Cemetery. • Keith D. Monmaney Sr., 61, of Canaan, N.H. Died Oct. 29 at his home after an extended illness. Survived by his wife, Katrina; his son, Keith D. Monmaney Jr., Debbie Mason and their son Morgan Monmaney, and Debbie's son Ben Davis; his stepchildren, Nick and his wife, Lainie Doe, and Aaron and his wife, Emily; and siblings Bill and his wife, Cherylee; Anthony and his wife, Linda; Tom and his wife, Karen; Bruce and his life partner, Barbara; Roxanne and her fiance, Chris, and Greg. Born in Brattleboro, the son of the late Doris H. (Benware) and Harry W. Monmaney Sr., he attended Brattleboro Union High School and then worked in the family painting business. In 1993, he started Custom Painting and Drywall, which he operated until 2004, when he went to work for his brother Bruce as an estimator-job coordinator. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a kind man who put his family first. He prided himself being a first class tradesmen, and taught many young people the trades that he knew - painting, wallpapering, drywall finishing, and carpentry. He changed the lives of many people by giving them the tools they needed to build their own career. He loved to fish, and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and gardening. He loved to have fresh eggs from his chickens, and to take care of his pheasants and numerous other barnyard and household critters. He enjoyed “Guys Card Night” and was quite a pool shark. On nice summer days, he enjoyed taking scenic rides on his custom three-wheeled motorcycle. Memorial information: A potluck celebration of his life will take place on Nov. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Canaan (N.H.) Fair Speedway Hall. Donations to the charity of one's choice.
• Lee Weiland Rich, 89, formerly of Wilmington. Died Oct. 31. Husband of Mari-Lou Griggs Rich. Father of Kathy (Steve) Walmsley, Jeff (Joyce) Rich, Meg Rich Ryan, Kim (Bob) Milliken, and Chis (Lydia) Rich. He moved his family to Wilmington in 1965. Active in the Wilmington community, he served as Selectman, Auditor, a member of the Planning Commission, and president of the Brattleboro Development Credit Corp. Raised in Westfield, N.J., he attended Princeton University before enlisting in the Marine Corps. A recipient of the Purple Heart, he was wounded in Okinawa before his honorable discharge in 1945. Lee was proud to don his uniform on Memorial Day to participate in the annual parade and once posed for a group photo of World War II Vets for a fundraising calendar. He enjoyed a successful insurance career for 40 years, and was the general agent for National Life of Vermont in Manhattan and established Vermont Insurance Associates shortly after moving to Wilmington. Upon retiring, he concentrated on his art work and his avid interest in Greek history. His realist paintings showcased Vermont and gained him entrance into the New England Watercolor Society. Fascinated by the Mycenaean period of Greek history, he was in the process of writing a book on the topic. Adored by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he will be best remembered for being a devoted family man. Always the great debater, yet with affable demeanor, he encouraged everyone around him to think outside the box, imagine the glass as always half-full, and most importantly, analyze, analyze, analyze every situation.
