BRATTLEBORO — The Recreation and Parks Department, as part of the Arts in the Parks Program, presents the Butterfly Swing Band on the Common on Putney Road, on Tuesday, July 7, at 7 p.m.
This is the second concert of the Summer Arts in the Park series for 2015. Trumpet player and singer Scott Sizer describes Butterfly Swing as follows:
“We're a swing band, specializing in tunes from swing era, with a bit of blues and bebop added. However, we're definitely not a retro band cranking out musical period pieces. We have a unique sound, replete with hard-driving solos and a lot of hard blowing and spontaneous give and take.
“What has been personally rewarding to me is that we get people up dancing - to jazz, like people used to do way back when. Even people who say they don't like jazz 'get' the energy of the band and respond to it. We do a number of tunes made famous by the great Count Basie band, so I guess you could say that overall, we have kind of a 'Kansas City' sound.”
In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to American Legion Post 5 on Linden Street.
