BRATTLEBORO — For its 27th annual production of Shakespeare in the Park, Vermont Theatre Company presents one of The Bard's great comedies, “All's Well That Ends Well,” for four performances on June 23, 24, 25, and 26 at 6 p.m. on the Rotary Stage at Living Memorial Park, according to a news release.
Admission is $6; 6 years and under free. Reservations aren't necessary.
“All's Well that Ends Well” is the unconventionally beautiful, complicated, and comically backward fairy-tale of Helena de Narbon. A brilliant, beautiful, and passionate daughter of a renowned physician, Helena suffers the curse of loving above her social station.
Count Bertram of Roussillon, a young French nobleman and the object of Helena's affection, would rather abscond to foreign battlefields for a soldierly life than bore himself with marriage. With the help of her abundant wit and a little magic, Helena pursues her reluctant groom into Italy, where she hatches a plan to win his respect and affection.
Though the play has presented challenges to critics and audiences alike since it was penned around 1605, it has garnered recent acclaim in productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company, including a 2004 presentation directed by Gregory Doran and starring Judi Dench.
VTC's production is directed by Cameron Cobane with help from Jesse Cross-Nickerson and Bill Wieliczka, and stars Gaia Miranda Posner as Helena. Kate Maisner is the Stage Manager, and Mike Jerald and Ian Hefele are the producers.
Other members of the company are Kerstin Becker, Mike Sola, Slava Tchoul, Jesse Cross-Nickerson, Bill Wieliczka, Alexander Bobella, Sean Auth, Dylan Gallagher, Brittany Goldsmith, Victoria Maillo de Aguilera, Ruben Garza, and Guin Roy.
