BRATTLEBORO — A concert featuring Egyptian pianist Mohamed Shams will benefit the Brattleboro Music Center's Music School, which this year marks the 40th anniversary of its founding.
The concert is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 pm, at the Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St.
Shams, who last year made his Carnegie Hall debut with a solo recital, also will be a visiting artist at Brattleboro Union High School, meeting with students and faculty and performing a short recital, according to a news release.
Shams has been hailed as a “deeply impressive pianist of tremendous flair and intellectual strength” and a “spectacular pianist," the release said.
His appearance is made possible by an anonymous donor who contacted the BMC in the aftermath of terrorist attacks in Europe and continued tragedy around the world. The hope was to organize an event to offer comfort and inspiration.
As a soloist, Shams has performed with a number of orchestras, including the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Egyptian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Chamber Players, Manhattan School of Music Symphony, the Royal National Scottish Orchestra and the Repertory Symphony.
