Arts Alive!, in partnership with the Hannah Grimes Center, will present an artist-to-artist workshop on intellectual property law on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at MAxT Makerspace in Peterborough.
Attorney Amanda Nelson will present a brief introduction to the three major areas of intellectual property law: copyrights, patents, and trademarks. She will discuss the distinction between these three areas; what, specifically, they protect; and how artists can use intellectual property laws to protect their livelihoods.
“An artist's greatest asset is her creativity,” Nelson said in a news release, “and intellectual property law is designed to protect this powerful asset."
After the formal presentation, the floor will be open for the attendees to ask general questions about intellectual property law and how it applies to their work.
“The Monadnock region is home to over 600 artists and over 400 crafters and makers who would benefit from this workshop,” says Jessica Gelter, Executive Director of Arts Alive! “We're working with the Hannah Grimes Center to boost this section of our local economy."
More than 200 makers have participated in the Artist-to-Artist program since its inception three years ago.
