The Arts Council of Windham County is celebrating 38 years of Student Arts Month, which takes place in March.
Throughout the years, the Council has celebrated blossoming young artists in Windham County while recognizing the teachers and school infrastructures that help these students to flourish.
The council has partnered with venues, schools, and teachers to arrange activities featuring the work of young artists throughout Windham County.
Several area high schools participate in Student Art Month, as well as many elementary and middle schools, and there are approximately 300 pieces of art entered in the high school art show alone, according to a news release.
Festivities always begin with the opening of the High School Visual Art Show during the March Gallery Walk.
This year, the 2-D works will be hung at the River Garden Gallery (including photography), and the 3-D works will be at the Vermont Artisans Gallery 2 on the second floor on Main Street. The Elementary School Art Exhibit will be at the Brooks Memorial Library and on display during March.
The shows will open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2, to coincide with Gallery Walk. Once again, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite pieces in the “People's Choice Awards” as the show continues throughout the month.
This year's winners will be interviewed for a television spot on “Art Story,” the Arts Council's BCTV show that features local artists.
