Concert to benefit Putney Cares

PUTNEY — Big Woods Voices, an a cappella quartet featuring Will Danforth, Alan Blood, Becky Graber, and Amanda Witman, presents a benefit concert for Putney Cares on Sunday, April 22, at 4 p.m., at the Friends Meetinghouse on Route 5.

Big Woods Voices (bigwoodsvoices.com) unites these four veteran area singers in celebrating their common passion for a cappella harmony through arrangements of original, roots, and world music.

The group performs Danforth's original settings of poems by David Whyte, Mary Oliver, W. B. Yeats, and others; richly-harmonized standards of the American roots lexicon; gems by musicians such as Pete Sutherland, The Finest Kind, and the Stanley Brothers; and completely original poetic-harmonic pieces.

Danforth is a singer-songwriter, traditional acoustic artist, and arranger/composer; Blood is a long-time member of area singing groups including the Blanche Moyse Chorale, I Cantori, Blue Moon, and House Blend; Graber is the leader of the Brattleboro Women's Chorus and Animaterra Women's Chorus in Keene; and Witman is the founder and co-leader of the Brattleboro Pub Sing with Tony Barrand.

Putney Cares (putneycares.org) is a community organization that enables Putney's older residents to remain independent and at home as long as they wish and helps the community unite with its elders. It provides volunteer-run social events and supportive programs for seniors such as community luncheons, durable medical equipment loans, a foot care clinic, and classes in tai chi, yoga, folk dancing, strength training, computer skills, and art.
