BRATTLEBORO — On Sunday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m., at the Brattleboro Music Center, Jonathan Biss, world-renowned pianist and co-director of the Marlboro Music Festival, will perform a concert to benefit the brand-new Marlboro Town Library.
The program will include Haydn's Sonata in A flat major, Hob XV: 46; Beethoven's Sonata in E flat Major, Op. 31 no. 3; Mozart's Menuet in D Major, K. 355 and Adagio in B minor, K. 540; and Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6.
A post-concert reception with refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Marlboro Library Board.
Biss appears regularly as a soloist with the world's leading orchestras. He is also a composter, an author, and a faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He has been coming to Marlboro for 20 years and calls it his “true musical home.”
This benefit concert, presented in collaboration with the Brattleboro Music Center, will raise money for the new Marlboro Town Library to purchase books and materials that cater to a wide range of ages and interests.
In addition, the Library Board hopes to facilitate book discussions, author talks, lectures, toddler reading hour, and community movie nights. The library is currently being funded by the Marlboro Alliance, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit that supports and nurtures the Marlboro Community.
