Photos from Republic of Georgia on display at Crowell Gallery

NEWFANE — The Crowell Gallery at Moore Free Library, 23 West St., invites one and all to take a photographic journey through the Republic of Georgia with Dummerston photographer Stephen Tavella.

With 16 images, Tavella hopes to convey a sense of that which is uniquely Georgian, despite Greek, Roman, Arab, Persian, Mongol, Turkish, Russian, Christian, Muslim, eastern and now western invasions and influences spanning two millennia.

Tavella has been exploring and photographing landscapes and cultures from around the world since his days in the Peace Corps in the 1980s, when he spent four years in the Solomon Islands and the Republic of Kiribati.

His most recent work reflects six months in 2016 in the Republic of Georgia where he was strategic management adviser to the peace institute, The International Center for Peace and Integration.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display throughout March during regular hours of the Moore Free Library - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 1 to 5 p.m., Thursdays, 2 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit www.moorefreelibrary.org for more information.
