BRATTLEBORO — On Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m., artist Joey Morgan will discuss “Catch Release (2) Précis,” her multimedia art installation at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center.
Morgan will give a presentation about her work, then engage in a conversation with BMAC Chief Curator Mara Williams and take questions from the audience. The exhibit is on view in the museum's Mary Sommer Room through June 16. The talk is free and open to the public.
Morgan's “Catch Release (2) Précis” is a mixed-media work featuring video and sculptural elements. It is a second, streamlined iteration of a larger project, “Catch Release,” that was exhibited in Montreal.
“The title refers to the practice of catching a fish, pulling it from its mysterious depths, and then releasing it, allowing it to fall back home,” Morgan said in a news release.
“Morgan places you in the middle of this sea of images, full of rich associations and possibilities,” said Williams, who noted that the piece's original title was “Unreliable Narrator.”
“It's a completely open-ended, non-discursive, nonlinear experience, but there is a narrative implied,” Williams said. “What Morgan is really interested in is how you construct stories, meaning, and narrative.”
