GRAFTON — Thirteen Vermont organizations were awarded a total of $63,000 in funding from The Windham Foundation in their recently concluded grants round.
In a news release, Liz Bankowski, CEO of The Windham Foundation, said “we are proud to support these organizations who offer a variety of social, recreational, and educational programs that enrich their communities and benefit the state.”
Local grantees included:
• The Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford: a grant to continue renovation of the 120-year-old Grange building to revitalize it as a gathering place for activities that enhance the well-being of the people of Guilford.
• Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermont in Windham County: a grant to support their school-based mentoring program in which each child is paired with an adult mentor. Mentoring activities include learning a new skill or craft, participating in a recreational or cultural event, and assistance with homework.
• Green Mountain Camp for Girls in West Dummerston, which opened in 1917: a grant to support their “Launching Leaders” program for girls 14 to 16. The program will enable 25 young women to develop leadership skills, expand their knowledge, and build their confidence.
• New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro: a grant to bring their program “Circus in the Neighborhood” to children residing in two public housing developments in Brattleboro. NECCA is an internationally recognized circus school known for outstanding physical and creative programs.
