Marty Wendell headlines Wardsboro Curtain Call

WARDSBORO — Rockabilly Hall of Fame recording artist Marty Wendell will perform as the final show in the 2019 Wardsboro Curtain Call Music Series at Wardsboro Town Hall on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Musically weaned on an old Philco radio, the veteran singer-songwriter from Ticonderoga, N.Y., says he grew up whetting an appetite for rockabilly, folk, country, and pop to blues and gospel.

Influenced by the legendary Sun Records artists like Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash, Wendell entered a church talent show where he sang in front of a live audience for the first time and was hooked for life.

More than half-century later, he continues to enjoy performing for enthusiastic audiences. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest artists in early rock, country, R&B, and folk including Arlo Guthrie, Faron Young, Hank Thompson, Lacy J. Dalton, Sonny James, and The Platters, as well as Cash and Perkins.

Jarith Martin on NYSMUSIC.com writes of Wendell's newest album, “Drawing from a rich and storied career, nearly 60 years in the making, Wendell returns triumphantly in 2019 with Rock and Roll Days: A Celebration of Sun Records - a stalwart tribute to the early days of rock, and ultimately, a retrospective on the music that shaped his own career.”

“Marty Wendell has been rockin' a good long time,” writes Chris Wienk of WEXT-FM in Albany, N.Y. “And yet he approaches each new project with a wide-eyed, youthful enthusiasm. The tracks on [Rock and Roll Days] boil with intensity, helping us rediscover treasured classics.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door; BYOB. To learn more, email kwkmdavis@yahoo.com or call 802-896-6810.
