BRATTLEBORO — The Latchis Theatre gets into the Halloween spirit with Wicked Weekend, featuring three special programs running a wild, weird, and wicked gamut from Oct. 25 through Oct. 27.
Wicked Weekend kicks off with an invitation to Do the Time Warp Again! as Latchis Arts presents its annual screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday, Oct. 25, at 10 p.m.
This cult classic starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick first hooked audiences in 1975 and has inspired people to give themselves over to absolute pleasure ever since. The film is Rated R. Costumes are encouraged, and admission is $10 at the door.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, Latchis Arts joins forces with the Vermont Folklife Center and the Vermont International Film Foundation to explore the spookier side of our state's film history. At 4 p.m., Transformations and Walter Ungerer's The Animal - two eerie films from the 1970s, shot and set in Vermont - will be shown.
Film historian, horror authority, and legendary cartoonist Stephen R. Bissette will introduce the films and lead a Q&A. Admission is free, with a donation of $10 suggested.
Wicked Weekend wraps up with a presentation by National Theatre Live in HD of the play Frankenstein on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m.
This production, originally captured in 2011, stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller and is directed by Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire). It is written by Nick Dear, based on the book by Mary Shelley.
Frankenstein contains a scene of sexual violence and is recommended for ages 15 and up. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students. Contact Jon Potter for questions and advance credit card purchases at jon@latchisarts.org or 802-254-1109, ext. 3.
