Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem to perform ‘Wintersong’

PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present New England's acclaimed roots, rhythm and harmony quartet Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem with special guest Anna Patton at Next Stage on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.

The five musicians will perform “Wintersong,” a collection of celebratory, poetic, reflective seasonal songs, an ode to light and dark at the turning of the year.

Daisy mayhem - comprised of Rani Arbo, Andrew Kinsey, Anand Nayak, and Scott Kessel - features four-part vocal harmonies, indelible songs, fiddle, acoustic and electric guitars, bass and a homemade percussion kit of cardboard boxes, tin cans, caulk tubes, packing-tape tambourines, bottle-cap rattles, Mongolian jaw harps, and a vinyl suitcase.

Over the past 18 years, the folk/roots quartet has toured its uplifting, healing performances to concert halls, festivals and residency engagements across North America, and has released seven CDs on Signature Sounds.

As described in a news release, the program “swings between reflection and celebration, with verses by hallowed poets, fiddle/percussion-driven New Year's shouts from the Georgia Sea Islands and Louisiana, traditional carols and songs by modern songwriters.”

Patton, a Brattleboro clarinetist, singer, composer, and educator, is a member of the internationally touring dance band Elixir, the quartet Dunham Shoe Factory, and the Julian Gerstin Sextet.

Her other current projects include teaching aural skills/ear training and directing the Soubrette Jazz Choir, which she founded in 2006. Patton holds a Master's of Music from New England Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation program.
