Hospital receives Thompson Trust grant

TOWNSHEND — Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital recently received a grant from the Thomas Thompson Trust in response to its appeal for COVID-19-related assistance.

According to a news release, like many other hospitals in the nation, Grace Cottage experienced a dramatic decrease in revenue due to the pandemic, as people cancelled or postponed health-care services in response to Vermont Gov. Phil Scott's stay-at-home instructions.

This, along with increased expenses in order to be prepared to respond to community needs, led to a huge financial gap.

Thomas Thompson Trust's award came in response to Grace Cottage's appeal for help to individuals and charitable organizations.

The Thomas Thompson Trust, one of the oldest charitable foundations in the United States, limits its distribution of funds to organizations in Windham County, Vermont, or Dutchess County, New York.

The Trust makes grants to charitable organizations whose work and purposes promote health, education, or the general social or civic betterment in the stated geographical areas.

For the foreseeable future, special consideration is being given to nonprofits working on the front lines to meet the basic needs of those most impacted by COVID-19.

Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital serves approximately 7,500 patients annually, mainly from towns throughout Windham County.

Among its services, it offers primary care, inpatient hospitalization, physical and occupational rehabilitation, and around-the-clock emergency medical services.
