UVM offers online programs in place of Osher lecture series

BRATTLEBORO — The local chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute lecture series, affiliated with the University of Vermont, has suspended its in-person offerings in town until further notice due to the pandemic.

In its place, organizers recommend the UVM Distinguished Speaker lecture series offered via Zoom on Wednesdays from Oct. 7 to Nov. 18.

• Oct. 7, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “Reflecting with the Fleming Museum: Legacies of Colonialism and Racism in the Museum,” with Alice Boone, curator at the Fleming Museum of Art at UVM.

• Oct. 14, 2:30 to 4 p.m.: “Ready, Set, Vote! The 2020 Presidential Election,” with Ellen Anderson, associate professor of political science at UVM.

• Oct. 21, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “Music and the Mind,” with James Stewart, VPR Classical music host.

• Oct. 28, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “Vermont's Economy After the Pandemic,” with Art Woolf, associate professor of economics at UVM.

• Nov. 4, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “Weather Wise: The Science of Weatherlore,” with Mark Breen, senior meteorologist and planetarium director at the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury.

• Nov. 11, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “Seeing and Disrupting Racism: A Focus on White Fragility,” with staff from the Peace and Justice Center in Burlington.

• Nov. 18, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: “From Falwell to Fox: The American Religious Right,” with Daniel Miller, associate professor of religion at Bishop's University, Quebec.
