She attended local schools and the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing (now the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science) in Rochester, Minn., where she became a Registered Nurse. In the early 1960s, responding to a job posting, she migrated east to become the school nurse at The Putney School , where she also met and soon married Charles N. Brickley. For many years, she was employed at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse, rising to become Director of Nursing. In 1987, she obtained an M.Ed. from the University of Vermont and became director of the Thompson School of Practical Nursing. She greatly enjoyed her teaching and administrative duties and spent 10 years fostering the education of nurses, several of whom later provided their professional care and companionship in her waning years. After retiring, she continued to be active, traveling to foreign capitals and to visit her children and grandchildren. She pursued knowledge, particularly genealogy, knitting and fabric arts, and revived her skill as a pianist, revealing a long-dormant talent that astonished her family. She was devoted to her friends and family alike. She is survived by her brother Donald Skinner; close friend and daughter, Lois Sleeper and her husband, Skip; a son, Peter Brickley and his wife, Annette; two grandchildren, Tova and Torsten; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles N. Brickley, with whom she built a small green paradise in the Putney hills. • Lenore Adele Irion, 68, of Saxtons River. Died peacefully before daybreak on Sept. 11, 2020. She was in the care of her sister and medical hospice in Alstead, N.H. Her sister and two devoted friends were at her side as she took her last quiet breath that disappeared into the silence and stillness. As her physical strength diminished, her sense of wonder kept growing. The late summer weeks provided so much richness outdoors in the gardens that surrounded her. Friends brought her flowers, played live music, had meaningful conversation, and expressed gratitude and love. Born in 1952 into a family of six, she spent her school years growing up in Wayne, Pa. She then settled on Martha's Vineyard where she enjoyed island life. It was there that she made her closest friends. She returned to Pennsylvania and then Delaware to care for her aging parents, settling finally in New Hampshire and then Vermont. Although a private person, Lenore touched many kinds of people with her warmth and kindness and pure heart. She was unaware of her innocent charm. Animals were her love. The 11 dogs that she rescued were her favorite companions. She received a lot of pleasure from her feline friends as well. When asked in her last weeks what she felt good about accomplishing in her life, she answered first, among other things, “certainly taking care of mom and dad in their last years. It was an honor. We were a threesome. I felt proud of them and people could see that we loved each other tremendously.” Again, among other things when asked what she wanted those of us who love her to remember about her. Her answer was, “Well, I really loved my childhood and I loved to laugh.” Memorial information: None provided.
