Red Cross blood drive set for Dec. 1

MARLBORO — The Red Cross Bloodmobile is coming to town on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when the Marlboro Alliance, the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Company, and the Degrees of Freedom program will host a blood drive in the Dining Hall on the former Marlboro College campus, 2582 South Rd.

As thousands of blood drives have been canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Cross says it is more urgent than ever to meet critical patient needs.

While nothing is completely without risk, the Red Cross says it continues to take the highest standards of safety and infection control precautions to ensure that blood donation sites are safe, including social distancing throughout the donation process, temperature screening, and intensified disinfecting procedures.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration have also all issued statements encouraging those who are healthy to donate blood.

Blood drives are also not considered “mass gatherings” as they are controlled events with trained medical staff and appropriate safety measures to protect donors and recipients.

For more information, email jkohn@degreesoffreedom.org or francie.marbury@gmail.com, or call the Red Cross at 800-733-2767.
