GUILFORD — Window Dressers, a nonprofit organization that offers insulating window inserts for local homes, is coming to town.
Inserts are installed from the inside of windows and held in place by friction. Depending on the efficiency of your windows and home, you could see fuel savings of up to 20 percent with inserts in place.
The inserts are built of pine frames and wrapped drum-tight with a durable plastic film to create clear views through an insulating air space. Around the outer edges, foam weather stripping stops drafts and aids the insert's tight, custom fit.
Pricing is based on size and finish (natural pine or white). A medium-sized 30 in. {x} 52 in. insert costs $39 plus tax (pine) and $50 plus tax (white).
Qualifying households are offered up to 10 free inserts. Everyone receiving inserts is asked to participate in some form in the community build. No special skills are required.
Volunteer team members in Guilford have been trained and are ready to start scheduling and performing window measuring visits.
The inserts will be assembled at a local Community Build, held at the Winston-Prouty campus (formerly Austine School; 209 Austine Dr.) from Friday, Oct. 29 to Tuesday, Nov. 2. Everyone who orders inserts also participates in the Community Build, which will follow all public health guidance at that time.
The number of participating homes is limited to about 30.
