BRATTLEBORO — After an absence of 1{1/2} years, The Met: Live in HD makes its return to the Latchis Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m., launching its 2021–22 season with Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov.
Bass René Pape, described in a news release as “the world's reigning Boris,” reprises his portrayal of the tortured tsar caught between grasping ambition and crippling paranoia.
Conductor Sebastian Weigle leads Mussorgsky's masterwork, a pillar of the Russian repertoire, in its original 1869 version.
Stephen Wadsworth's production, which runs 2 hours and 35 minutes, “captures the hope and suffering of the Russian people, as well as the title ruler himself,” promoters for the performance write.
Masks are required to enter the theater, and opera patrons will be asked to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative Covid test.
Due to prior obligations, Boris Godunov will be shown in the Fountain Theater.
Admission is $22 ($20 for Met Club Forever members and $10 for students).

The Met: Live in HD season continues on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. with Fire Shut Up in My Bones, Grammy Award–winning jazz musician and composer Terence Blanchard's adaptation of a memoir by New York Times Opinion Columnist Charles M. Blow.
