BRATTLEBORO — A two-in-one concert celebration of a new CD, Big Woods Voices: Poetry in Harmony and Becky Graber's songbook, All I Need is Here, is scheduled Friday, October 21, at the Brattleboro Music Center (BMC).
Big Woods Voices celebrates a cappella vocal harmony through arrangements grown from American roots genres, world folk styles, poets old and new, and Will Danforth's deep creative well. “From heart-stopping to foot-stomping, prayerful to fun-filled, dissonant to dulcet, Big Woods Voices brings the spirit of southern Vermont to life through rich harmonies and soulful interpretations,” say organizers.
This Big Woods Voices CD features Danforth's musical arrangements of poems. The Voices (from high to low) are Amanda Witman, founder of the Brattleboro Pub Sing; Becky Graber, director of the Brattleboro Women's Chorus; Will Danforth, an award-winning, multi-instrumental solo acoustic artist; and Alan Blood, long-time member of area groups such as the Blanche Moyse Chorale, I Cantori, Blue Moon, and House Blend.
During the evening, Graber will be joined by her daughter, Sarah Ellis, to sing a handful of songs from her new songbook, a collection of 31 songs for group singing: some layer songs, some solos, and many songs for treble ensemble singing. The songbook will be available in print and online at beckygraber.com.
