Baker Street Readers present ‘A Christmas Carol’

BRATTLEBORO — The Baker Street Readers will stage a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol at the Hooker-Dunham Theater on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.

While most everyone is familiar with A Christmas Carol, due to its many popular film, TV, and stage adaptations, the Readers will present an abridgment of Dickens's original novella, which contains many moments and commentaries often lost in translation to other media. (1)Dickens himself performed public readings of his beloved story more than 120 times, including at his last public appearance before his death.

Though the co-founders of the Baker Street Readers, James Gelter and Tony Grobe, usually perform Sherlock Holmes stories, both have performed in or directed various stage productions of A Christmas Carol in the past and are delighted to be joined by actors Bruce Holloway and Shannon Ward as they present this beloved story once more.

Grobe will narrate, Holloway will perform Ebenezer Scrooge, and Gelter will perform the four ghosts, with Ward reading various characters.

Tickets for the show are $10, but a $2 discount will be given to anyone who donates a nonperishable food item. All food donations will in turn be given to the Foodworks food pantry in Brattleboro.

Seats are limited and reservations are highly recommended; email bakerstreetreaders@gmail.com to claim your seat. For more information, visit facebook.com/bakerstreetreaders. The Hooker-Dunham Theater requires all audience members to provide proof of vaccination and wear a mask.
