Westminster West Church hosts Zedashe Ensemble

WESTMINSTER WEST-The Zedashe Ensemble from the Republic of Georgia will give a concert of traditional Georgian music and dance on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Westminster West Church.

Mountainous Caucasus Georgia, situated on historic crossroads on the eastern shore of the Black Sea, has "one of the world's most ancient and arresting three-part harmony-singing traditions," organizers say, with a "dark, sonorous vocal quality and startling, unexpected, and heart-stirring harmonies."

Directed by Ketevan Mindorashvili, Zedashe Ensemble was founded in the mid-1990s to sing repertoire largely lost during the Communist era. Zedashe is one of the few mixed-gender performing ensembles in Georgia today.

Zedashe's repertoire includes chants from the country's full range of folk song genres - some pieces accompanied by traditional instruments - as well as examples of ancient Georgian orthodox chant and traditional dancing.

Tickets are $20 at the door or online at bit.ly/782-zedashe.
