Heart Rose Club presents a night of local folk on Nov. 22

BRATTLEBORO-Norma Dream, Elijah Berlow, and Mary Elizabeth Remington take the stage at the Heart Rose Club on Green Street Extension on Friday, Nov. 22. "Fill your belly with soup and take in the raw, authentic stylings of the musicians alongside good company," invite organizers in a news release.

Norma Dream is the songwriting project of Norma Jean Haynes: folksinger, banjo player, and wandering musician. Based in western Massachusetts, Haynes has followed a love of traditional song to Corsica, Bosnia, England, South Africa, and Appalachia, and her original songs are inflected by these experiences. Her debut album, Mothers & Daughters, embarks on an exploration of nature and relationship as, she says, she strives to define a tradition of her own.

Berlow is a Chicago-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist folk musician. Originating from pastoral roots in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, Berlow is a storyteller with a narrative style grounded in the traditions of Americana music.

Berlow creates music that "is complex, soulful, and in conversation with a rich rhythmic history," say event promoters. His music can currently be found on all streaming platforms, including the self-released EP Put Out Fires (2022).

Remington is from rural Massachusetts. She writes her melodies and lyrics "in collaboration with time," she says, letting them unfold as stories do. She sings of love as she knows it and the melancholic indifference found in this beautiful world.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the music will start at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 and includes a full buffet catered by The Heart Rose Club staff. For questions, email johnnygiffordmusic@gmail.com.
