Wardsboro Library hosts ‘Murder by the Book’ fundraiser

WARDSBORO-The Wardsboro Public Library, in collaboration with the Wardsboro Curtain Call, invites the community to a night of mystery and drama with their upcoming event, "Murder by the Book." This murder mystery, set against the backdrop of Wardsboro's library, "promises to deliver intrigue, laughter, and suspense," say organizers.

The story follows Lucy the Librarian and a band of quirky volunteers as they stage a fundraising performance to rescue the library from financial peril. However, the plot thickens when an actual murderer strikes on opening night, leaving the actors scrambling to solve the mystery before the curtain rises again - and before the library is lost for good.

The script for Murder by the Book is the creation of acclaimed mystery author Louise Penny and playwright Laura Teasdale. Having successfully raised funds for the Pettes Memorial Library in Québec with a similar event, Penny and Teasdale have gifted this adaptable script to other libraries seeking to engage their communities through the magic of theater.

"More than just a fundraising effort, Murder by the Book is a celebration of Wardsboro's creativity and community spirit," organizers wrote in a news release. "Audiences can expect to be drawn into a riveting performance filled with unexpected twists, familiar local faces, and plenty of humor."

The event will take place at the Town Hall, 71 Main St., with two performances: an evening show on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., followed by a reception at the library, and a matinee on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations to support the library's future are strongly encouraged. Not appropriate for children under 12.
