BMC welcomes Musicians from Marlboro on Feb. 17

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Music Center's Chamber Series welcomes Musicians from Marlboro Group II Monday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. at the BMC.

This particular touring ensemble includes Marlboro senior artists Sang Yoon Kim, principal clarinet of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra; cellist Peter Stumpf, formerly of the Johannes Quartet; 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner Evren Ozel on piano; and four exceptional young string players: violinists Maria Ioudenitch and Stephanie Zyzak and violists Hiroki Kasai and Natalie Loughran.

"Musicians from Marlboro are widely recognized for their freshness, rich imagination, and virtuosity," said event organizers in a news release.

The evening's program shines a light on Schumann, including both his "Märchenerzählungen (Fairy Tales)," Op. 132 and string quartet in F major, Op. 41, No. 2. Schumann is further celebrated in György Kurtág's "Hommage à R. Schumann," Op. 15d. The concert concludes with Brahms's clarinet quintet in B minor, Op. 115, "one of his great masterworks, and a piece of extraordinary emotional depth," say organizers.

Tickets are $30 general admission and are available at bmcvt.org, 802-257-4523, and info@bmcvt.org.
