Sirius Quartet performs at Latchis on Feb. 28

BRATTLEBORO-The Latchis Theatre continues its International Music Series with a concert by the Sirius Quartet on Friday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. The quartet's members are leaders in the field of progressive chamber music. This will be their first performance in Vermont and an album release concert for their latest recording, Incantations.

Internationally acclaimed veterans of contemporary music, Sirius Quartet combines exhilarating repertoire with improvisational fire. These conservatory-trained performer-composers "champion a forward-thinking, genre-defying approach," say organizers.

Since their debut concert at the original Knitting Factory nightclub in New York City, Sirius has played at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the Beijing Music Festival, the Cologne Music Triennale, Stuttgart Jazz, Musique Actuelle in Canada, and the Taichung Jazz Fest - Taiwan's biggest jazz event.

Incantations features nine new works by members of the quartet. Having premiered works by contemporary composers, Sirius continues its commitment to musical innovation with original works by its own members, incorporating popular song forms, extended techniques, and improvisations.

The quartet consists of Fung Chern Hwei and Gregor Huebner, violin; Sunjay Jayaram, viola; and Jeremy Harman, cello.

Tickets are $20, available in advance at latchis.com or at the door.
