BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) hosts a discussion of Michael Finkel's 2023 novel, The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession, on Thursday, April 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the museum.
The event is the first in a new series called "BMAC Reads" - occasional book club–style conversations at the museum about art-themed books.
The Art Thief details the exploits of Stéphane Breitwieser, who admitted to stealing 239 works of art from 172 European museums between 1995 and 2001.
"We don't want to give anyone any ideas," joked BMAC Director Danny Lichtenfeld. "We just think it will be fun to come together and discuss this astounding story with fellow museum lovers, surrounded by great art."
The conversation will be moderated by Elizabeth Catlin. A resident of Dummerston, Catlin is described as a voracious reader and board member of the Brattleboro Literary Festival. She is the immediate past board chair at the Brattleboro Retreat and current vice chair of the national board for Girls on the Run. She recently joined the board of the Vermont Community Foundation.
Admission is $10 (free for BMAC members). Refreshments will be available. Space is limited, and advance registration is required. To register, visit brattleboromuseum.org or call 802-257-0124 x101.
