BELLOWS FALLS-A doubleheader featuring a magical VHS player and a celebration honoring the legacy of the Grateful Dead will screen at the Bellows Falls Opera House on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
Bellows Falls Films, in conjunction with Rockingham Entertainment Development, showcases the work of independent filmmakers from southern New Hampshire and Vermont.
First up is the 30-minute short film, The Rewind (2024), directed by Shea Hauver and starring Ty Jo Nash and Ari Lucius, produced by Gavin Key with cinematography by Quinn Wilson. When David discovers a magic VHS player that allows him to travel through time, he learns that changing the past could have unseen consequences.
Following this magical trip will be the feature documentary about the "long, strange trip" of the Grateful Dead and its legacy for generations to come. Not Fade Away: A Celebration of the Grateful Dead Legacy includes interviews with Jay Blakesberg, Peter Shapiro, David Krumholtz, Sam Grisman and more.
Nearly 30 years since the death of Jerry Garcia and the disbandment of the Grateful Dead, the culture they created is bigger than ever. This documentary film explores why the Grateful Dead music, spirit, and legacy will "not fade away" anytime soon. Watch the video at youtu.be/Z0TdlqJt88I.
"Shooting Not Fade Away was one of the best experiences of my life," said Key in a news release. "It gave me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people, from your average Deadhead around the Northeast, to getting to hang out backstage with Dark Star Orchestra. This film is more about Deadheads than the band itself, and how they have kept this amazing legacy alive."
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at bellowsfallsoperahouse.com or cash/credit at the door. Visit Terrapin Sky Media's website at terrapinsky.com.
