‘Castle of Our Skins: Alchemy’ at BMC features composer Holland

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Music Center (BMC) presents Castle of Our Skins: Alchemy, featuring composer Jonathan Bailey Holland, on Saturday, May 3, at the BMC, 72 Blanche Moyse Way.

This portrait concert spotlights Bailey Holland's solo and chamber music. The 7 p.m. performance will be preceded by a 6:15 p.m. pre-concert conversation about Bailey Holland's works with Castle of Our Skins artistic director Ashleigh Gordon.

"Featuring the work of a single composer in a program provides such a rare opportunity to get to know them in an intimate way," says Gordon. "Alchemy provides a window into Jonathan's mind, inviting us to explore his creative work spanning over two decades."

Performers will include Matthew Vera, violin; Ashleigh Gordon, viola; Francesca McNeeley, cello; Sarah Bob, piano; DeShaun Gordon-King, flute; and Celine Ferro, clarinet.

"Born out of the desire to foster cultural curiosity, Castle of our Skins is a concert and educational series dedicated to celebrating Black artistry through music," wrote organizers in a news release. "From classrooms to concert halls, Castle of our Skins invites exploration into Black heritage and culture, spotlighting both unsung and celebrated figures of past and present."

Tickets are $30 general admission and are available online on the BMC website at bmcvt.org, by calling 802-257-4523, or by emailing info@bmcvt.org.
