MARLBORO-Under the artistic direction of Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss, Marlboro Music's 74th summer season continues with weekend concerts on Saturday, July 26, and Sunday, July 27, and free, open rehearsals throughout the week in Persons Auditorium, 2472 South Rd. Festival performances and rehearsals continue through Sunday, Aug. 17.
The July 26 and 27 programs feature seven chamber music works from three centuries performed by Uchida and 25 musical artists and young musical leaders.
Saturday's program spotlights Brahms and the Second Viennese School. Audiences will hear senior string players Marie Bitlloch (Elias Quartet), Jay Campbell (Jack Quartet), and Hélène Clément (formerly of the Doric Quartet), among others, performing music by Schoenberg and Webern. The evening begins with a set of Brahms songs and culminates with his Horn Trio, with pianist Uchida, violinist Stephanie Zyzak, and horn player Carys Sutherland.
Sunday's concert offers a pair of works by Beethoven - the Piano Trio in D major, Op. 70, No. 1, and the Septet in E-flat major, Op. 20 - and Prokofiev's Quintet in G minor, Op. 39, performed by St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Principal Violist Maiya Papach, Seattle Symphony Principal Oboist Mary Lynch VanderKolk, and three first-year participants: French clarinetist Arthur Stockel, German violinist Felicitas Schiffner, and Philadelphia Orchestra Associate Principal Double Bass Gabriel Polinsky.
Schedules for open rehearsals are announced at the beginning of each week and include many of the works that will be performed on the following weekend's concert programs.
Admission to the rehearsals is free, and no tickets or advance signup is needed. Note that rehearsal schedules are subject to change.
