Celtic lineup concludes BMC's Music Under the Stars series

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Music Center's 2025 Music Under the Stars series at Retreat Farm concludes Saturday, August 23, with "Celtic Night."

The evening will include traditional music as the BMC closes this popular summer series. Performing will be Keith Murphy and Becky Tracy, with Jenna Moynihan and Màiri Chaimbeul.

Tracy and Murphy form a cornerstone of the New England traditional music folk scene. Their music is the result of decades of teaching, performing, and many recordings. Steeped in the music of Ireland, French Canada, and Murphy's native Newfoundland, they have forged arrangements of traditional songs and fiddle tunes while incorporating their own compositions, many of which have become part of the repertoire of players across the U.S. and beyond.

Moynihan, from Lakewood, New York, on fiddle and Chaimbeul, from the Isle of Skye, on harp, combine their skills to make contemporary music rooted in the melodies of Scotland and Appalachia. "Their music breathes new life into old tunes and merges their wide-ranging influences into a sound that is at once grounded and adventurous," organizers wrote in a news release.

Murphy has worked with Moynihan and Chaimbeul through the Celtic Sojourn concerts in the Boston area. He has also toured with Moynihan as part of the Hanneke Cassel Trio and has recently recorded with Chaimbeul.

Admission is free with donations welcome. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with the concert at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to bring lawn chairs and a picnic dinner. No outside alcohol is permitted, but beverages are available for purchase on site. Also, organizers request concertgoers leave their dogs at home unless they are service animals.

Music Under the Stars series sponsors include Guilford Sound, Friends of the Brattleboro Music Center, the Vermont Jazz Center, and the Vermont Arts Council. For more information, contact BMC at 802-257-4523 or email info@bmcvt.org.
