Hazmat Modine closes out Next Stage’s 2025 Bandwagon Summer Series

PUTNEY-Next Stage Arts wraps up its 2025 Bandwagon Summer Series with a finale featuring Hazmat Modine, an eight-piece band blending international traditions with American roots.

The performance takes place Saturday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. on the Putney Inn Field, 57 Putney Landing Rd.

"Hazmat Modine embodies the adventurous, community-building spirit of the Bandwagon Series," Heather Ahrenholz, Next Stage Arts communications director, said in a news release.

With over 25 years of touring, Hazmat Modine has earned acclaim for its sound-an "intercontinental sonic collage" of blues, soul, country, rock, roots, gypsy jazz, and global folk traditions, said organizers in a news release.

The band combines trumpet, saxophone, trombone, tuba, harmonica, banjo, guitar, violin, and drums with folk instruments and guest performers. Wade Schuman's vocals and harmonica sit at the heart of the band's performances.

Hazmat Modine has performed on stages worldwide, from the World of Music, Arts, and Dance (WOMAD) festivals in England, Australia, and New Zealand to festivals in Berlin, Vienna, Montreal, and Vancouver. They've collaborated with groups and performers such as The Kronos Quartet, Natalie Merchant, and the Gangbé Brass Band.

Their music has been featured on Japanese television, Wim Wenders' film Pina, and the Nobel Laureates 75th Anniversary. Their most recent album, Bonfire, was released in 2023.

The Bandwagon Summer Series, finishing its fifth year, transforms parks, farms, and fields across Windham County into outdoor cultural gathering spaces.

Doors open at 3 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the gate, and free for kids under 12 at nextstagearts.org. Food will be provided by 802 Soul Kitchen.
