Soggy Po’ Boys bring spirit of New Orleans to Putney

PUTNEY-Next Stage Arts Project presents the Soggy Po' Boys, New England's own ambassadors of New Orleans sound, Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Since their formation in 2012, the Soggy Po' Boys have performed New Orleans music across the Northeast and beyond, bringing their mix of traditional jazz, Caribbean tunes, brass band grooves, funk, and soul to concert halls, street corners, libraries, and festivals alike.

"Although New Hampshire isn't the most obvious home for a group so devoted to the culture of The Big Easy, the Soggy Po' Boys seem genuine in their ambition to spread the word about jazz New Orleans style, and they're creating an accessible and fun way into this world," wrote London Jazz News.

The eight-piece band incorporates interplay, storytelling, and group dynamics, weaving together "a sound that captures the vibrancy and spirit of New Orleans," wrote organizers in a news release.

Their repertoire draws from the Crescent City's rich musical traditions, a mix of Caribbean rhythms, funk, brass band, street parade, and jazz music.

"Whether in a bar, a theater, or a festival, the Soggy Po' Boys embody the idea that New Orleans music is for everyone, everywhere - and Putney will be no exception," said organizers.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door, and $10 for access to the livestream, available at nextstagearts.org.
