PUTNEY-Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of contemporary folk, roots, and Americana with The Clements Brothers and The Early Risers Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
The Clements Brothers - George (guitar) and Charles (upright bass) - are identical twins from New England. Playing and writing music together since childhood, they entered the Americana scene in 2012 as part of the internationally touring band The Lonely Heartstring Band, releasing two albums on Rounder Records.
More recently, George has performed as Paul Simon in the national touring production of The Simon and Garfunkel Story, while Charles has played in the bass section of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
For their duo, the brothers draw from roots, rock, bluegrass, jazz, and classical influences.
Vermont-based Ashley Storrow and Putnam Smith make up The Early Risers. Rootsy and lyric-driven, their original songs feature close vocal harmonies and arrangements on a wide array of instruments, including banjo, guitar, mandolin, piano, and shruti-box.
After pursuing solo careers, Storrow and Smith joined forces in 2015 and have toured Maine, Texas, California, and Vancouver, British Columbia. They have performed at venues such as Club Passim, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and the High Plains Public Radio concert series.
Their debut album, Making Life Sweet, reached No. 1 on the Folk DJ Charts, with four songs in the top 10 most-played tracks. For this performance, they will be joined by Sarah Carlisle on upright bass and Lissa Schneckenburger on fiddle.
Next Stage is at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the Door, and $10 for access to the livestream, available at nextstagearts.org. A beer, wine, and cocktail cash bar will be available. For more information, call 802-387-0102.
