Zydeco Party features two area bands

PUTNEY-The "Vermont Zydeco Party," a celebration of zydeco music at Next Stage Arts, features two of the area's top zydeco bands who will bring their performances to Putney on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Set in the Community Room with its wooden floors, there's plenty of room to dance and enjoy this event.

"Whether you're a seasoned Zydeco dancer or new to the scene, this event promises something for everyone," organizers wrote in a news release.

For newcomers, there's a beginner Zydeco dance lesson at 3 p.m.

The music starts at 3:30 pm with ZydeGroove. This band brings country-zydeco to the stage, playing music straight from the roots of the genre. Known for their electrifying performances at dances, clubs, and festivals across the Northeast, "they'll keep the good vibes and beats going strong," said organizers.

At 6 pm., Michael Seider and Anna Sapozhnikova will be leading a special Whiskey River Jitterbug lesson. Seider, who lived and taught Zydeco in New Orleans for years, will guide dancers.

At 6:30 p.m., Planet Zydeco plays music that organizers said evokes Louisiana's rural dance halls, "traditional accordion-driven music that's both funky and infectious." They offer a blend of up-tempo songs, blues, and traditional waltzes.

Admission is $30, including two dance lessons, performances by two bands, and a potluck supper. A cash bar will also be available to keep you refreshed.
