BMAC presents concert of Baroque music on Oct. 25

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) presents "Grace and Grandeur: Baroque Masterpieces from France and Germany," a concert by Ensemble Amphion Baroque, Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.

Led by Vermont-based flutist Jesse Lepkoff, Ensemble Amphion Baroque consists of musicians specializing in historically informed performance on period instruments: Marina Minkin (harpsichord), Na'ama Lion (baroque flute), Carol Lewis (viola da gamba), and Owen Wattkins (baroque oboe, recorder).

Members of the group say they "seek to conjure the spirit and sound of the 18th century, drawing listeners into the elegance and emotional breadth of Baroque chamber music."

The program features works by François Couperin, Marin Marais, Louis-Antoine Dornel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Joachim Quantz, and others.

"We were privileged to host a performance by this extraordinary group about a year ago," BMAC Director Danny Lichtenfeld said in a news release. "The acoustics were perfect, and the pairing of historic music and instruments with contemporary visual art was sublime."

Admission is $25 ($15 for BMAC members). To purchase tickets in advance, visit brattleboromuseum.org or call 802-257-0124, ext. 101. Tickets will be sold at the door, subject to availability.
