Whitingham Library temporarily closed
JACKSONVILLE - Due to the culvert construction at the Municipal Center, the Whitingham Free Public Library will be closed until early November. Their tentative re-opening date is Monday, Nov. 10.
Library staff remind patrons that their digital and streaming services remain available 24/7, but that they have suspended interlibrary loan services until they reopen. For more information, visit whitinghamvt.org/library.
Main Street Arts to hold clothing swap fundraiser
SAXTONS RIVER - Main Street Arts, 35 Main St., will hold a clothing swap on Friday, Oct. 17, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Clean out the closet and refresh the wardrobe by bringing gently used, clean, and unstained clothing to swap with the community - while enjoying a crisp apple cider mimosa (by donation).

Halifax plans two senior meals during October
WEST HALIFAX - On Fridays, Oct. 17 and 31, volunteers will serve senior meals at the Halifax Community Hall, 20 Brook Rd.
On Friday, Oct. 17, the menu will feature a choice of roast lamb with mint jelly or roast pork with applesauce, pea salad, roasted potatoes, vegetables, cheese bread, and dessert.
The second meal, hosted by Halifax due to the hiatus in the Jacksonville Senior Meal while the Whitingham Town Office and Library are closed, Friday, Oct. 31, will be a Halloween celebration featuring pumpkin soup, fried chicken, potatoes, pickled beets, green beans, roasted corn, and apple crisp with ice cream. Organizers hope that all guests will wear Halloween costumes to make this special event even more festive.
For both meals, arrive around 11:30 a.m. for a convivial gathering and maybe a starter course. The main meal will be served at noon. A suggested $4 donation ($5 for those younger than 60 years old) will help to support these events. The hall is wheelchair-accessible, including an accessible bathroom. Guilford Historical Society to hold annual meeting Oct. 19
GUILFORD - The Guilford Historical Society's annual business meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m., at the museum, 4063 Guilford Center Road. Members and the public are welcome; anyone who wants to become a member can pay the $10 annual fee and vote on the proposed board for the coming year.
Concert, raffle benefits River Gallery School
PUTNEY - On Sunday, Oct 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill, join River Gallery School of Art for a benefit concert with Zara Bode, Concerto Incognito, and Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults ($40 at the door), $15 for under 18. A child aged 3 and under can share a seat with caregiver at no additional charge.
There will also be a raffle for a seven-night stay in a Paris, France, apartment for up to six guests (double occupancy). Travel expenses not included. Tickets are $25 each, three for $50, and ten for $100. A 50/50 raffle will also be offered, with 50% of the raffle pot going to one lucky participant. Tickets are $10 each. Last chance to buy raffle tickets for historic mural fundraiser
ROCKINGHAM - Time is running out to purchase raffle tickets for the Rockingham Historic Preservation Commission's fundraiser supporting the restoration of two historic murals with deep local roots.
The fundraiser features a handmade lap quilt titled "Burgoyne Surrounded," created and donated by local quilters Karen Engdahl and Linda Diak. The quilt's pattern honors the Battle of Saratoga and the surrender of British General John Burgoyne - a key victory in the American Revolution.
Proceeds from the raffle will help conserve two WPA-era murals by Vermont artist Stephen J. Belaski, recently returned to Rockingham for restoration and public display.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased at the Rockingham Meeting House, Rockingham Town Hall, Village Square Books, and Bellows Falls Historical Society. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m at the Rockingham Meeting House during the Southern Vermont Flannel Festival weekend held at nearby Rockingham Hill Farm.
Pop-up health screening event in Londonderry
LONDONDERRY -NorthStar Health's Delores Barbeau Mobile Van will be coming to the offices of Neighborhood Connections, 5700 Route 100, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, for a free health screening pop-up event.
Basic health screenings, plus information on community resources such as housing, dental and vision care, and other support services, will be available to all who come. Call Neighborhood Connections at 802-824-4343 to reserve a spot, or just drop in.
Advanced care planning offered at Senior Center
BRATTLEBORO - Come to the Brattleboro Senior Center at 207 Main St. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 12:30 p.m. for a presentation on Advanced Care Planning led by the Center for Solace (formerly Brattleboro Area Hospice). They will have Advanced Care Directive forms and will be able to answer questions and provide information about the process.
Sessions will be offered at the Senior Center monthly on the third Tuesday, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m, through Jan. 20, 2026. Participants must sign up in advance by calling 802-257-7570 or emailing sclark@brattleboro.org.
Food drop in Putney
PUTNEY - The Vermont Food Bank and Putney Foodshelf co-sponsor a monthly food drop, offering a selection of produce and nonperishable foods. The drive-thru service is on the fourth Thursday of every month, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. It is free and open to all.
The next food drop is Thursday, Oct. 23. While construction is being done on Alice Holway Drive, Putney Food Drops will be located at 78 River Rd. (This is the parking lot of what used to be Five Maples). More details, including a map, can be found at putneyfoodshelf.org/food-drop.
Clothing swap at Putney Central School
PUTNEY - On Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Putney Central School hosts a clothing swap. Building on the success of their spring clothing swap, they'll be including a mending station as well as a snack bar and café. Along with adult and kids' clothes, they'll be taking donations of toys, games, and sporting equipment.
Donations can be dropped off Wednesday–Friday, Oct. 22–24, at the school's front entrance during student drop-off and pick-up times. There will also be donation bins at the Putney Food Coop and Maple Coffee. The event is free, and it's not required to donate items in order to shop.
