Wardsboro celebrates Founders Day Nov. 7

WARDSBORO-Wardsboro Curtain Call presents a Founders Day celebration Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at Wardsboro Town Hall. The town received its charter from the Republic of Vermont Nov. 7, 1780, 245 years ago.

This inaugural Founders Day celebration offers an opportunity to discover the fascinating stories behind these and many more moments from Wardsboro's past.

"Did you know that the American Revolution and the Russian Revolution came together on Sheldon Hill Road right here in Wardsboro? Or that there was once a Wardsboro woman who became the last person publicly whipped in Vermont?" wrote organizers in a news release.

Local storytellers Anita Rafael, Bram Kleppner, Carol Backus, Alan Bills, and others will share tales that span from the town's earliest days to more recent history. The evening will feature photos and live entertainment celebrating the people and places that have shaped the community.

"Come learn about your town's storied past, connect with neighbors, and enjoy a night of history, music, and local pride," organizers wrote. "Celebrate Wardsboro's heritage - and be part of making a little new history, too!"

Adding to the festivities, Jim Knapp will premiere his new song "Wardsboro's Walls," along with "Irene" and "Growing in Vermont."

Refreshments will be served, and memorabilia and commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
