Works from Art in the Neighborhood on display at Brooks Memorial Library

BRATTLEBORO-In September and October of 2025, artist Evie Lovett worked with students in the Art in the Neighborhood program, to create print images using a photographic process known as "cyanotype."

The project, titled "Out of the Blue," referenced the blue monochromatic prints resulting from this simple sun-printing process and the element of surprise in their creation. Students also wrote poems based on their prints. The prints are currently on display at Brooks Memorial Library through the month of January.

Art in the Neighborhood is a program that provides tuition-free art classes to students in four affordable housing communities in Brattleboro. Artist and state Rep. Mollie S. Burke (D, Windham-8) founded the program in 2008 and continues as its executive director.

The prints on display at the library represent the work of students from Moore Court, Ledgewood Heights, Westgate Housing, and the Daly Shoe Building.

Lovett is a Putney-based artist who says she is dedicated to connecting people to each other and to place through art, story, and active participatory engagement. She was a 2022–23 Climate Change Artist in Residence at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center. Her collaborative public art sculptures include "Ask the River" at the Brattleboro Transportation Center.
