WILLIAMSVILLE-The Rock River Players (RRP) presents Love Letters on Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. at Williamsville Hall, 35 Dover Rd.
Organizers urge the public to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with the Rock River Players’ production of Pulitzer-prize finalist A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters. With two runs on Broadway (1989–90 and revived in 2014), Love Letters explores a 50 year on-again, off-again relationship between two people who interact entirely through letters.
“The play stirs a range of emotions in me from gentle amusement to heartbreak,” Charlene Kennedy, who portrays the female lead, Melissa Gardner, said in a news release. “I remain charmed by the relationship, the dreams, the hopes, and the hardships of the deep love between Melissa and Andrew.”
Director Tracy Berchi added that the play’s exploration of the many forms love can take is what speaks to her most about this project.
The play is “fundamentally about relationships, and how they can morph depending on our life choices” Berchi said. “The characters are both born into wealth and privilege, and this play also examines what that privilege can and cannot do for a person on an emotional level.”
The two characters will be played by actors Charlene Kennedy and Stewart McDermet.
Williamsville Hall is heated and ADA compliant. Baked goods and other concessions will be available by donation. Tickets are $15 at the door or in advance at rockriverplayers.org.
