Queralt Giralt Soler Trio will perform

PUTNEY-Cellist, vocalist, and composer Queralt Giralt Soler presents her trio Friday, Feb. 20, for an evening of music that bridges classical training, jazz improvisation, and Catalan folk traditions. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m performance at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill.

Based in the United States and Catalunya, Spain, Giralt Soler has cultivated a musical voice that fuses cello and vocals. Her work draws equally from contemporary composition, Mediterranean roots, and jazz, resulting in music that “feels both adventurous and deeply personal,” wrote event promoters in a news release.

An internationally active artist, Giralt Soler has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Detroit Jazz Festival, and has collaborated with celebrated musicians such as Kenny Barron, Joe Lovano, and Latin Grammy–winning group Las Migas.

She is joined by an ensemble featuring Mahya Hamedi on piano, percussion, and vocals, and Bahar Badiei on oud and vocals. Together, the trio will present Giralt Soler’s original compositions alongside reinterpretations of works by composers such as Hermeto Pascoal and Paco de Lucía.

Tickets are available at nextstagearts.org for $22 in advance, $25 at the door, or $10 for livestream access.
