Bank offers sessions on financial literacy

BRATTLEBORO-Brattleboro Savings & Loan (BS&L) will be a participant in National Financial Literacy Month in April.

Recognizing the importance of financial education in empowering individuals and families, BS&L representatives say it will provide essential financial tools and resources through seminars this month.

“Financial literacy helps people feel confident about their finances so that they can make better decisions, avoid extra debt, and plan well. Families with strong financial habits spend wisely, support local businesses, and make decisions that help the local economy,” said John Blake, BS&L’s senior vice president for retail banking.

Blake said financial literacy “is about understanding how money works, and when people learn about budgeting and managing debt, they’re better prepared for the future. They can plan for big moments like buying a home, saving for retirement, or paying for school.”

Throughout April, BS&L will host a series of free evening seminars with Secrest & Darrow and other professional partners. These sessions will cover a range of important topics, including how to avoid common mistakes with your will and trust, spotting scams, and avoiding fraud.

“Everyone should have access to financial knowledge. Educating our community so people can make informed choices about their money is a foundation of our mission,” said Robert Sims, CEO and president of BS&L. “These partnerships give us the opportunity to share practical, real-world advice with members of our community.”
