Reading series marks National Poetry Month

BRATTLEBORO-Tiny Theater and ByWay Books & More will celebrate National Poetry Month this April with a series of poetry readings honoring the diversity of poetic traditions across history and cultures.

ByWay and Tiny Theater invite poets and poetry enthusiasts to participate in the readings. Those interested in reading poetry during the series may contact Tiny Theater or ByWay for more information.

This free program features performances and readings spanning major poetic movements — from classical traditions to contemporary spoken word — along with special guest appearances and themed events. The series will also spotlight thematic traditions including Beat poetry and social justice poetry.

In addition to the historical and contemporary readings, the series will feature a special Children’s Poetry Day, welcoming young readers and families to experience the joy of poetry through playful readings, classic children’s verse, and opportunities for young poets to share their own work.

“We wanted to create a poetry festival that reflects the incredible breadth of the poetic tradition. From Shakespeare’s era to today’s spoken word stages, poetry continues to speak to the deepest concerns of human life—beauty, justice, faith, identity, and imagination,” wrote Bob Marcus, one of the organizers, in a news release.

Poetry lovers, performers, and community members are invited to attend and participate throughout the month. For specific dates/times and poetry genres, visit tinytheater.org and bywaybooks.co.
