BRATTLEBORO-Write Action, Brooks Memorial Library, and ByWay Books & More announce the sixth year of Poems Around Town, public displays of poetry, for the month of April, designated as “National Poetry Month.”
Poems are submitted and read by a small team of poetry lovers, who have vetted them. More than 90 poems from poets in Brattleboro and vicinity, with some from more distant towns, will be posted in shop windows throughout downtown, organizers explained in a news release. Copies of several chosen poems are also in businesses on Canal Street, including ByWay Books.
Site Guides listing all businesses hosting poems is available at the Brattleboro Food Co-Op, Everyone’s Books, Brooks Memorial Library, ByWay Books, and Downtown Brattleboro Alliance headquarters on Elliot Street.
The public is invited to join the well-known and lesser-known poets who submitted work at a reading Saturday, April 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Library.
This year, in addition, there will be a limited edition book of all the poems in Poems Around Town, Through the Windows of Brattleboro, created by Andy Burrows. Books will be available at a later date, details to come. Questions or comments may be sent to info@writeaction.org.
