Bandwagon series presents Rhythm Future Quartet, DiTrani Brothers

PUTNEY-Next Stage Arts continues its Bandwagon Summer Series with a twin bill, featuring the Rhythm Future Quartet and the DiTrani Brothers on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. (gates open at 5 p.m.) at Putney Inn Field, 57 Putney Landing Rd.

The evening will feature acoustic string jazz and swing energy. Rhythm Future Quartet, named for a Django Reinhardt composition, is an ensemble dedicated to keeping the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive - and expanding its horizons. With Jason Anick (violin), Henry Acker (guitar), Max O'Rourke (guitar), and Greg Loughman (bass), RFQ blends Hot Club of France classics with global influences and original compositions.

Their recent album, Rhythm Future Quartet and Friends, features collaborators such as Cyrille Aimée and Stochelo Rosenberg and was hailed by JazzTimes as "packed to the gills with feeling [...] full of virtuosity and swing." Their viral video performances - some with millions of views - have earned them a global following.

The DiTrani Brothers are known for their "perilous tunes for the hopeful," a gritty, genre-blending fusion of Balkan rhythms, early American jazz, and swing, organizers wrote in a news release. With roots in street performance and DIY venues across the U.S., brothers Bobby and Walker DiTrani, joined by Eddie Gaudet (drums) and Benjamin Richards (bass), have created the album, Dust Harvest, which captures the energy that has made them festival favorites.

Tickets are $22 in advance at nextstagearts.org, or $25 at the gate, and children under 12 attend free. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or chairs to enjoy the show under the open sky. Each show features food vendors (including Smokin' Bowls for this event), drinks, and a play area for kids.
